Download Mozilla Firefox 3.5 -

Then get the AdBlockPlus add on -

I use both of these and all of my inbox's (incl. hotmail and aol) are free of adverts. What AdBlockPlus does is scan the page and block the adverts from loading. So in doing that it also speeds up your browsing as there is not so much crap to load.

Download Google Chrome -

➊ Download and install Privoxy.
❷ Click on the Wrench icon in Chrome in the upper right corner.
➌ Choose options -> Under The Hood -> Change proxy settings.
➍ In the Internet Properties dialog's Connections tab, click on the LAN settings button.
❺ Check off "Proxy settings" and in the address setting add 127.0.0.1 and in the port 8118.
❻ If you have the option, you can also check off "Bypass proxy for local settings".
❼ Click "OK," close Chrome and restart it.

Download Internet Explorer -

First, you need to download a list of filters adapted from the adblock plus list for Internet Explorer 8. This can be found here or attached at the end of this article. Download the archive and extract its content.

NOTE: If you want to have the ad blocking filters running each time you use Internet Explorer 8, then follow the instructions on how to keep InPrivate Filtering enabled forever.

➊ Start Internet Explorer 8, click on Tools and then on Manage Add-ons.
❷ In the Manage Add-ons window, click on InPrivate Filtering and then on Import.
➌ Browse to the location where you extracted the rules.xml file, select it and click on Open.
➍ When the import is done, you will receive a notification such as the one below.
❺ Now close the Manage Add-ons window and you are done.
❻ If you know other sources for good filters, don't hesitate to share them with us by leaving a comment.

Some time ago, when they had technical problems and accidently placed a script in the box on the YA pages instead of the flash ads normally displayed, I found out that adyield-manager is used to place personalized ads. Adyield manager uses cookies to track your browsing habits, so you may get a different ad displayed than somebody sitting right next to you. That prompted me to look for solutions since I don't like to get spied upon, and I found several good solutions...

Download and install the latest Firefox browser:

Also install "adblock plus":

Result: no more annoying ads! And pages are loading much quicker too...:-)
- this adblocker for the IE (and other browsers) gets highly recommended in several forums.
- for Safari Mac - another solution for Safari 4 Win and Mac.

I personally have the Firefox installed and don't see anymore ads on the YA pages...:-)

Ever since Yahoo allowed the flashing, moving, talking ads, it has slowed down tremendously. Even with high speed internet service. We have to wait for the ads to load. At times they have made my computer freeze up. And I have a new Computer with Vista. Sometimes I hold my breath if I'm going to get the page that I click. Even using the back arrow is time consuming at times. I refuse to install Adblocker, many have gotten a virus using that.
