How can on I follow up on the job I applied for?   4 comments

I recently applied for a new position. My usual MO is to wait 3 days and call to ensure that my application materials were received, with the underlying goal of introducing myself to the person who is looking to fill the position. However, I received an email stating that my application materials have been received. So how do I follow up?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Perhaps ask whether the information you provided was sufficient or whether they need more.

Or to ask whether they have reached a decision as to who to interview.

  2. If they have your application I would wait a week then call and ask you can check on the status of your application. If you are lucky you may get someone that will give you a time frame, if they are still accepting more applications before setting up interviews etc. Alot of companies just stop you at the reception desk, with the we will contact you if we are interested.

  3. I think 3 days after you know they received your information is a good time period. Just call up and say “I have recently applied for position x. I wanted to take this opportunity to follow-up with you and to maybe answer any questions you may have regarding my experience and background.” then at the end be SURE to say “Thank you for your time. I hope to hear from you soon.”

  4. Call. Ask if you can have an interview.
And if it isn’t a good time for them, call back later in a few days.
You habve to show some initiative and determination. In some cases you will be told to “back off,” and if so, forget it.
You may show them you WANT the job and get an interview. but, basically, nothing happens unless you make something happen.
    Good luck.
