Is it ok to follow up with a company after you sent a resume? or is that rude? 3 comments

I have sent a few resumes through email and attached my cover letter and resume (the instructions said to email) and Im a little worried it might to the company’s junk maill, or that they might never see it.
Is it professional or a common practice for applicants to follow up with a company after sending the resume/application EVEN if you have not been contacted by them?
I was wondering if I contacted them on my own will after sending my resume, maybe it would show them I really want to work for them, I dont know, any employers or HR people who know about this stuff, please help! God Bless!
